Angela Gossow had three younger siblings and her birthplace was Cologne. Her parents divorced when she turned 17. Her parents' business also was bankrupt, adding the financial burden. Being bulimic and anorexic made her a victim. About her decision to step down as ARCH ENEMY's singer Gossow stated that there's the right time and the proper place for everything. Madekwe was born South London, England into an ethnically diverse family. Her father is Nigerian and Swiss and the mother of her is English. She grew up in a south London community estate, where she attended The Brit School at age fourteen. She received her Bachelor of Arts in acting from The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
